Fibromyalgia

From The Nutritional Health Bible by Linda Lazarides (1997). This free database is provided for interest only. Linda's later writings refer to more up-to-date research.

Some causative factors
  • Magnesium deficiency.

The average red blood cell magnesium levels of fibromyalgia patients is lower than controls. Magnesium deficiency symptoms are very similar to those of fibromyalgia and may be confused with the disease. Romano TJ et al: Magnesium deficiency in fibromyalgia syndrome. J Nutr Med 4:165-167, 1994.

Promising nutritional research

Of 15 fibromyalgia patients supplemented for 8 weeks with magnesium malate, average tender point index scores were reduced from 19.6 to 6.5. Abraham GE et al: Management of fibromyalgia: Rationale for the use of magnesium and malic acid. J Nutr Med 3:49-59, 1992.
