Soy contains daidzin, a powerful plant oestrogen. 58 menopausal women suffering from at least 14 hot flushes per week were given a daily diet supplemented with soya flour or wheat flour, in a randomized, double-blind trial. There was a significant, rapid improvement in the menopausal symptom score, particularly in the soya flour group, with symptoms decreasing by 40% over 12 weeks.
